Forza Motorsports 3 Review

I've been out of the loop as of late int he 360 world, seeing as I've been playing a lot of older games (if you really need to know.. Donkey Kong 64, NBA Live 2005, and Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour). That being said I decided to get my hands on some newer Xbox games, one of which happened to be Forza Motorsports 3. With all the hype behind it and people claiming it to be "one of, if not the best racing games of all time" I figured it'd be prefect for me to get back into the 360.

Before reading too far into this, consider the fact that I've only played the game for about an hour. These are just my early thoughts. My first reaction to it is that the graphics are amazing. There's not a single thing that looks bad about it. Everything from the cars, to the tracks, to the menus are all smooth, and great looking. But more important than all that, the game plays incredibly well. This isn't you average Need For Speed (hold the gas button down for the whole race, and use crazy turbo's) racing game. It's more on the same style of racing as Gran Turismo. Not exactly like GT though. I find the Gran Turismo games to picky about things like breaking into corners. This game is realistic in the way you have to control your car, but at the same time it's not a total bitch to try and take a simple corner. All this (even though it's really not that much) being said, I give the game an 8.5/10. Definitely worth checking out.

Well.. it's been a long while since I've hit up the ol' blog.. but all of a sudden I'm feeling the idea of throwing my thoughts & opinions out there again. So, to get the ball rolling on the blog again, I'm checking back in to let you know what's been up in my life and give my opinions on a bunch of things!

MY LIFE..
First off.. what's been poppin' in my life. I finally got my ass moved out of Shelburne, and I'm living back in Halifax (Clayton Park, if you wanted to know). I just transferred from the Sobeys in Shelburne to the Clayton Park one where I've been getting all the hours I need to pay the bills and live comfortably. So that's my location, but what's been going on in Jamie Perry's life? Well, I got a girlfriend (follow her on twitter @xdelilah) now (4 months today, actually) and the relationship's going pretty smoothly. She's looking at moving up here in late December/early January which is cool.. also, it'll make rent CRAZY cheap seeing as it'll be 5 people in a 2 bedroom apartment. Anyways, that's enough about my life.. I know that ya'll don't wanna hear about any of that.. you want my opinions on a bunch of random stuff!

BASKETBALL..
Well.. it's basketball season again.. and there's plenty going on in the NBA.. none of which I'm liking a whole lot. My team isn't being consistent at all, my hopes of seeing a player revive his career are fading, and the fact that I don't have cable or a reliable internet connection to watch games is a huge pain.

First thing's first though, and that's the Toronto Raptors. They did exactly what they had to do after last season. They dumped their entire roster through trades and letting them test the free agent market, except for their main guys (Bosh, Bargnani, Calderon). I have no problem with the guys they picked up, they built themselves a wicked roster. What I don't like is the choice to give Triano a contract. There's alot of far better coaches out there that they could have looked into like Avery Johnson or Jeff Van Gundy, and put Triano as the assistant coach. That's not all that frustrates me about the Raptors, though. It's the inconsistency. They come out first game of the season and beat the Cavs, who a lot of people were calling to win it this year, then go out the next game and drop one to a weak team like the Grizzlies (don't worry I've got things to say about them, too). I'm not one to talk a ton about contracts in the NBA.. but when I look at the Raptors, and start seeing who should contribute based on what they're making.. Hedo Turkoglu stands out, and not in a positive way. To me the guy hasn't made the difference he made for Orlando. This is definitely a better move than when they got Jermaine O'Neal.. but in the end, once Bosh's hot streak ends (and it will, you watch.. I give it 1, maybe 2 weeks) and he's not carrying the team on his back, they'll be in the exact same spot as last year and that's focusing on making a good pick in the draft (which they did this year, I love watchin' this DeRozan kid.)

Allen Iverson. Oh man, what a mess this is. Maybe I'm the idiot for not seeing this coming, and thinking we'd be watching the Iverson who made a name for himself in the 90's.. but something told me it was going to be different than Denver and Detroit. See he didn't have the one thing in Memphis that kept him from being the player he was in Philly. That, if you're wondering, is a star(s) to share the spotlight with. Back when he played for the Sixers it was all AI. Sure he had solid players around him for a few of those years, but none that demanded the spotlight like he did. When he went to Denver he had Carmelo to share it with (he also found himself having to work on the offense with a guy who had an as sharp, if not sharper scoring touch as him, too). The AI/Melo experiment looked good at times, but overall it didn't work. So they did a swap of AI for Billups with Detroit, which went even worse than his time with the Nuggets. He shared the spotlight with Hamilton, Prince, and Wallace. Oh, and if you watch basketball you'd probably remember the fact that he had to come off the bench, too. Now, lets fast forward to the 09-10 season. Coming off the bench in Detroit, I understood it. It fit the roster they had, and made sense. But look at the roster of the Memphis Grizzlies. With the lack of star power in Memphis, AI, I believe, has the potential to be the player that he was in Philly. Instead, they have him coming off the bench, while Mike Conley is starting. It makes no sense to me.. at all. Another thing I don't get about their team is why exactly Thabeet is only getting 6.8 MPG. They need to get someone in there who actually knows how to run a team.

A few other things.. Blake Griffin. I was pretty excited to see what this guy and the Clippers did this season after seeing him in the summer league/pre-season but he had to go and break his knee cap throwing down a nasty dunk in a game. Now it's gonna be a month and a half or something like that before he makes his NBA regular season debut. I don't know.. I never really bought into it, but after the shit with Elton Brand last season, then this.. I think the Clippers are in fact cursed. The Boston Celtics. I'm still a huge Paul Peirce hater, but I'm diggin' a team with KG, Sheed, and Ray Allen on it. Kendrick Perkins is a beast, too. That's all I really have to say about basketball right now, though.

MUSIC..
I'm not gonna lie.. lately I'm not even into rap and hip-hop that much as of late. I mean, I still listen to it but it just doesn't get me going like it used to. As of late I've been listening to a lot of electronic music as of late.

Justice. These guy's have been getting played on my iPod non stop as of late. I'd never heard of them until I downloaded the mixes from the recently released DJ Hero game. They mashed up Public Enemy's "Bring The Noise" with Justice's "Genesis" (check out a quick clip of it here). Anyways, after hearing that I decided to give their only currently released studio album ("†") a listen and I'm so glad I did. It's good for a listen from beginning to end. Certain point of the album remind me a bit of Daft Punk, but overall I think they bring out their own sound. Check them out, you'll see what I mean.

Skratch Bastid. I went out and saw this dude live a few weeks ago. Hands down, the best live DJ I've ever seen. I mean, who else do you know will open up a show doing cut's with an audio sample of Ric Flair going "WOOOOOOO!!" which then switches to Ric Flair's actual entrance music? And he closed it out with Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody".. that's just bananas too me. If you were at the show, you'd know what I'm saying.

Me personally, I haven't been making much music AT ALL. I've been doing a few mixes here and there for a new mixtape, and made a couple beats for Al Boogie, but that's about it. I produced a song on Boogie's recent mixtape called "Verse-atile". The track is called "Bad Trip" and you can download the full mixtape here.

VIDEO GAMES..
Before I get into talking about anything, I'd just like to mention the fact that I went out and bought a Nintendo 64 last month, and I've been killing the Super Mario 64, Donkey Kong 64, and WWF No Mercy. Anyways..

NBA 2K10 vs NBA Live 10. I've played both, and I'm having trouble figuring out which one I like better. The past couple years the 2K Sports titles have been better by far, but EA really stepped up their game this year. The biggest thing for me is the fact that Live runs much smoother. I find that 2K10 tends to slow down a bit when you're coming up the floor after the other team just scored. It's nothing major, but after a while it can really get on your nerves. That being said, with everything that they put into making live better, and the dynamic dna, and dynamic season they decided to remove one of my favorite features from the live series. The entire All-Star Weekend mode. That's right. No All Star Game, No 3 Point Contest, No Slam Dunk Contest. I didn't notice anything too different and new about NBA 2K10 compared to 2K9.. so when it comes down to it, I'm going to have to give this one to EA with NBA Live 10 due to the fact that they took 2 steps forward, while 2K Sports seem to have just stood still.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Oh the joys of a modded Xbox 360. I just burnt this one off and started it today, and I gotta say I'm liking it. I don't have too much to say about it right now, except I like the fact that they had the balls to put some controversial stuff in there. There's this one part near the beginning of the game where you go into an airport with what I'm assuming was some russian terriorist group (I'm not totally sure.. my roommate played this level not me, I was making lunch) and you just shoot the place up and kill everyone. I mean, sure, its COD, you're gonna shoot a ton of people, but the story, at least I think, is a tad controversial and I like it.

Alright.. so I'm in class right now, and I'm still pissed off about the events of yesterday.. everywhere I go, every channel I turn to on TV I seem to see an advertisement for these new Tim Horton's Chicken Wraps.. then, last weekend the guy I live with comes back to the place to let me know he had one and that they're all that. So obviously, my only choice is to go get a couple and try them out.

So the day comes yesterday, me and Jesse take a walk down to this busted ass Tim Horton's in Middleton to get us some damn chicken wraps. So we get down there, and it's busy as hell, and no wonder.. everyone's there getting a chicken wrap. So after like 15 minutes we finally get to the front of the line.. Jesse steps up.. 1 ranch, 1 barbeque.. I step up, ask for the same, they ring in my order.. cool..

WRONG. After those punks took my money, they decide to tell me they RAN OUT OF CHICKEN.

HOW THE FUCK do you advertise something straight time though commercial, and posters, and a bunch of other shit, then when I show up to get it you tell me that you don't have the main ingredient!? That's like me going to McDonald's and them telling me I can't get a Big Mac because they're out of hamburgers. I'm fuckin' pissed, and it's going to be a long time before I go to Tim Horton's again.. hear that, you jerks!? A LONG time!

By the way, they did eventually refund me my money, but 5 dollar bills don't fill my tummy, do they?

Wrestling.. What has it become?

So.. in the past few months that I've been in middleton, I've found myself with nothing better to do than to catch back up on what's been going on in wrestling. Now, it's no secret that back in the day (I'll say 98-20o1) I was wayyyy into wrestling. It was my thing, other people were into basketball, movies, shit like that.. nah, not me.. wrestling was my thing.

Anyways.. as I've been watching it in the past while, the first thing I notice is it's just not what it used to be.. I don't know if it's me finally growing up, or if it's actually worse.. but, I will say that I can still load up a few matches from the late 90's and still enjoy them.. not too many matches as of late fall into that category.

Over-all, the talent in the WWE these days is more entertaining, but I don't think that their main guys cut it like the guys back in the day. Triple H is still around in the main event, but your Cena's, Orton's, and Batista's just don't stack up to Stone Cold, The Rock, Undertaker (he ain't shit anymore.), and other main eventer back then. Mid-card on the other hand, I would have loved to see the exciting guys like CM Punk, Koffi Kingston, and Evan Bourne back then in the Attitude Era.

The one thing that annoys me the most about the current WWE has nothing to do with main eventers, or even talent. I can't stand that there's no SOLID tag teams, yet they have 2 set of tag titles. Who is there for tage teams that have been around the WWE these days for over 10 months? Miz and Morrison, and Cryme Time are all that come to my mind.. now turn back to the late 90s/early 00's.. the tag team division was ALL that. Edge & Christian, The Hardy Boyz, Dudley Boyz, New Age Outlaws, APA, Mark Henry & D'lo Brown, The Holly's.. and there was 1 set of belts. That's how it should be.

And the final thing that's getting on my nerves in the WWE right now is their stupid ass belts. Why did they have to ruin the ECW title. That silver peice of shit they've got now is fit for the pit. Bring back the old ECW belt. That's the smallest of my belt complaints, though. I don't mind the Big Gold (AKA The WCW Title) being used for raw, that belt was dope.. but what the fuck is Edge doing walking around with John Cena's belt? I mean, yeah, rock it for a couple promo's to get him pissed like The Rock did with Stone Cold's title, but you cant have Edge wearing a belt that spins.. it makes no since.. so just get it over with, and bring back the Attitude Era title. That, in my oppinion was the best title the WWE/WWF ever designed. (2nd being the Intercontinental title with the white strap.. that was dope too.)

*Edit: My bad, I just realized.. Triple H is the one who has the spinner belt now.. which makes even less sense. Has he even had a story line involving Cena this year?

Guitar Hero: Metallica

So, along with the new wrestlemania game, I also downloaded and burnt off the new Guitar Hero: Metallica game. From the 2 hours I've logged on this one, it seems like a decent game. It runs on the same engine that World Tour runs on, so you can play drums, and sing too. I have the drumset, but it haven't tryed out the drums on it yet. The game seems to feature a ton of good Metallica tracks, plus some additional tracks so you don't get sick of playing metallica songs all day. (trust me, you can, playing like 4 seven+ minute songs back to back. Over-all I give it a 3/5, seeing as the guitar hero thing is just starting to get old to me.

WWE Legends of Wrestlemania

So I recently downloaded and burnt off the new WWE Legends of Wrestlemania game. It pretty good from what I've played, although I have a ton more to check out. The control system is wayyy different, so I've got to get used to it, but as im getting used to it, I'm really diggin' it. When i got checking out the roster, and realized how much I liked who they selected, I felt super old, since the newest superstars on it were The Rock, Stone Cold, and Triple H (or should I say Hunter Herst Helmsley.. that's right, old school HHH in this one)

Once i get a few more hours logged on this one I'll post a full review.

March Break

Alright.. so it's Wednesday, i'm offically half way through the break, and I'm happy to say it's not going by too fast. I'm already feeling pretty relaxed for the most part, so who's saying how I'll feel after the 2nd half of the break is over, and I get back in the swing of things.

So I got home, then decided to go out and meet up and drink with a few friends, then eventually came home.. ever since that I've been in and out of the house, all around town, and just doing a whole lot of nothing! It's pretty relaxing!

I got thinking today when I looked at my losing proline ticket.. I can't remember the last time I won on proline..
Last night I too the over on the Cleveland/Boston game, which I called right.. but stupidly I called the under on Phoenix/Orlando game.. I guess I had it in my head this crazy offense from the Suns was only going on for a week or two, or that the Magic would play some defense.. I guess I was wrong. Anyways..
I finally realized why I can't remember the last time I've won.. I've been playing it too safe, wagering 2 bucks to win about 8 bucks at most.. That's why tonight I'm betting on the Over-Under for all 6 Games on the NBA schedule, which if I win, I'll turn a 2 dollar bet into 48.30. Wish Me Luck.

My Weekend in Halifax

Well.. I made it back to Middleton a bit earlier than I had planned to, but the weekend was still a fuckin' blast! A lot of money spent, with nothing to show, but who cares if I had a great time, right?

So, Jesse gave me a lift up from here, and we hit up Mic Mac, which was followed by a trip over to Halifax with me navigating. . what a train wreck. Even with a map, and being in Halifax for a while, it still took me like 30 minutes to navigate us to the camera repair shop we were trying to get to.. then it ended up being closed. So then, after some more treacherous navigating, we found ourselves in Bayer's Lake. We hit up Boston Pizza for some kick-ass pizza, then Jesse went to hit up some karts, while I waited for the 52 to continue on with the weekend in Hali.

Then once I'm on the 52, and jump off at the Shopping Centre, my bank account starts to feel the hurt. First off, I buy a new hat (it was on sale for 15, down from 40.. how could I resist?), then was ready to get a new pair of nikes, but Foot Locker didn't have my size in.. oh well, probably for the best.

So after that, I get on the 1, and meet up with my good friend Darcie coming home from work, and we head back to her place. We get there, catch up a bit, I meet like 3 of her room mates (all pretty cool people), and I get some new clothes on for later on. We decide to have a few drinks, and go out somewheres with her friends. So she calls up her friends, they come over, pre-drinks, then cab it downtown to figure out where we're going.. after thinking it over, and other things, we end up at cheers.. let the drinks begin.

So I end up dropping 40 bucks on shots that night, and oddly enough, I figure out after about the 4th shot that the chick that's going around selling shots in some girl I randomly added on facebook. So I mentioned the facebook thing, and she said she recognized me, which was cool. Whether or not she actually did, or was just trying to get me to buy more shots, I have no clue, but still cool none the less.. small city, I guess.

After that, me and Darcie decided to head out for a smoke, then eventually walked back to the house. Half way, she decided to flag down a cab, and see how much closer 5 bucks would have gotten us to her place. After that, we only had like a 4 minute walk, then before I knew it I was passed out on the couch.

Good Morning. Surprisingly not that hung over, feeling pretty good. After kickin' around the house, watching some re-runs on TV, I get some stuff together and head out to meet my friend Lori. After metro transit not being so convinient, and I meet with her a half hour late, we chill out for the afternoon, go out and grab some subway to eat, and catch up. Pretty good time, glad I got to chill.

After that, I went and grabbed a bite to eat at Wendys, then worked on figuring out what was going on that night. The plan was to hang out with my old classmates Sabrina and Laura, but we ran into a little bit of a bump. I wasn't 100% sure where I would crash, since Darcie wasn't going out I didn't want to just show back up at 3 or so in the morning.. I thought it'd be rude..

So nothing was seeming to work out, and then the idea of getting my eyebrow peirced came up, and it almost happened, untill Sabrina called me to see what was us. When i said I had no place to crash Darcie over heard and said it'd be no problem, just to give her a ring when I got there.

Plans were back on, and it was time to go get some cash to spend at the bar. Knowing I was going out with Sabrina, and that I drink way more when I drink with her, I knew I needed more than the night before, so I got out 100 bucks. After that, I realized that Sabrina already seemed a little bit buzzed, and that I didn't want to have to play catch-up. So I decided to get out my jager I had braught from Middleton, and did a few shots. 45 minutes later, the 1/3 quart I had was gone, and I was already feeling a bit tipsy, so I hopped on the 1, and headed down to cheers.

I got there, and waited outside for Laura to show up. At this point I knew i was already pretty drunk when I tryed to light up a smoke filter first. That didn't work out so well. Then I get into a conversation outside with this guy who thinks my name is George or something, and that I'm the guy he's out there to meet.. it was actually quite halarious.

Fast foward a bit to after Laura and Sabrina show up, and I pay 10 bucks for coat+cover, and I go up and get a rum and coke.. shortly after, I run into facebook chick again, coming around with shots.. of course, I buy one. This pattern seemed to carry on through out the whole night with my money being gone in about an hour. From here on out, the night's a tad blurry, but I remember walking home, and it being cold as fuck outside.

The next morning sucked so much.. SO MUCH. My hangover cure of champions didn't even work. For those wondering what that cure is, simply 2 hashbrowns and 1 of those little apple juices from McDonalds. I would never wish a hangover like this on anyone, not even my worst enemy.

After an extremely exausting day of making it from Darcie's to the Train Station, and sitting around because I made it there 3 hours early, I finally got my ass on a bus and on my way back to this shit hole (AKA Middleton).

So now I'm back, and blogging will resume!

So, I woke up today thinking "heyy.. maybe we'll get hit with a snow day.. pretty big storm was supposed to hit overnight..".. Well, the storm hit, and I guess it was close, but no cigar. The school's only opening an hour later, meaning Illustration class is cut in half.. and even still, the teacher will probably be late, so I might just wait untill 2nd class to go up to the school.

Right now, along with just about everyone else I've talked to about it.. NSCC is really starting to piss me off. We haven't learned anything new in atleast a month right now, and I'm starting to wonder if I'm paying to learn to further my career, or if I'm paying for the time to come to a building just so i can practice skill's I've already developed.. Every day I go in like "alright, today's the day we'll learn something cool".. nope, it's just "work on your t-shirts, work on your posters, go make a movie even though we havent taught you how to use anything to video edit".. I'm seriously strating to get pissed off about all this. I want my money back.

So I'll go today, and show my video after this old fuck from my class who pisses everyone off, then go to photography, and come home.. and in the end, I'm still going to be pissed off, cause I don't see this being turned around at all.

GM: This is a tough one.. but I can tell you it won't be the GM for the Sixers, Raptors, or Clippers.. I'm not too familliar with GM's in the leauge, but I'm gonna say the Cav's GM, for putting the missing peice of Williams with Lebron, and the sucess that came with it.
Coach Of The Year: Doc won't repeat. If I have to make a guess, I'm going to say Gregg Popovich.

Well.. I watched the game on friday when they got demolished by the knicks, and after that I didn't even want to think about watching it today.. then I stumbled onto NBA.com, and saw they were up by 10 in the 2nd quarter. So I just turned it on, which got me thinking about the team, and the trades they made.

First off, I'm gonna say I love the O'neil for Marion trade, I just wish moon and banks wern't involved.. Moon was an all around good player that could get it done on offense and defense, he just wasn't someone you could rely on for a solid game.. I'll be honest, I havent really payed much attention of Banks, but it seems to me that he's one of those guy's who will always be a team's 3rd point guard, 2nd point guard if he gets hot.

All that being said, I'm digging the trade as a whole. It puts bargnani back at the 5 where he had his most success this season, bosh at the 4, and marion at the 3 where he had his most success when he was in phoenix. With calderon healthy, and ukic being a solid backup to him (I'm a big fan of this kid.. I think he's going to develop to be like calderon with a little bit more of a nack for scoring.) and parker paired with the 3 I mentioned before, it's a good looking starting lineup. The bench isn't complete garbage either, with kapono's sharp shooting, and graham stepping up and putting some good games together this year.

All this being said, it's too late. They wont make the playoffs. They should have started shopping O'Neil around when he came back from his first little knee issue. I'm quite sure at that point they knew that they couldnt rely on O'neil to take them to the next level, and if they couldnt rely on him for that like it was hyped up, he shouldnt have been there taking up so much cap room.

Now, the question is, with bosh obviously unhappy, are they going to pull a boston celtics this off season, and surround him with a champioship team, or get rid of him and take the Oklahoma City Thunder route of building from scratch with young players.. it's gotta be one or the other, or they'll be in the same boat.. making it to round 1 of the playoffs, at best.
